The fine print, in plain English

Privacy policy

Short on purpose. Last updated .

This is my personal website. It doesn't use analytics, advertising pixels or tracking cookies, and I don't sell or share anything about you. I only learn about you if you choose to send me something.

What the site collects

  • The contact form. Your name, email address, the topic you pick and your message. The server also records the date and your IP address with it. The message is emailed to me and kept in a private file on the server that the public can't open. I use it only to reply to you.
  • One cookie, on the contact page only. It holds the form's anti-spam check and is deleted when you close your browser.
  • The Tag François leaderboard. If you submit a score, the name you choose and your score appear publicly on the leaderboard. To limit repeat entries, the game uses a one-way scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address; the address itself is never stored.
  • Saved on your own device. Best scores in Saucer Run and Keepy Uppy, and the home page's UFO sighting count, are kept in your browser's local storage. They never leave your device, and clearing your browser data removes them.
  • Server logs. Like any website, my web host keeps standard technical logs (IP address, browser and pages requested) to keep the site running and secure.

Things from other companies

A few pages offer videos hosted elsewhere: YouTube (in its privacy-enhanced mode) and TikTok on some blog posts, and Rumble on the office tour page. Nothing loads from those services until you press play. The Photography page shows an Instagram feed by EmbedSocial, which loads when you scroll to it. Once any of that content loads, the company providing it can receive your IP address and may set its own cookies under its own privacy policy. Links to other websites follow those sites' policies.

MacPulse

The MacPulse download page collects nothing, and the app runs on your Mac. It doesn't send your data to me.

How long I keep things

Messages are kept only as long as I need them to reply and follow up. Ask, and I'll delete yours.

Your choices

You can ask what I have about you, or ask me to delete it, through the contact form. California residents: I don't sell or share personal information, and because the site doesn't track you across other sites, a browser's Do Not Track signal doesn't change anything here.

Children

The site isn't directed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it.
